Sony’s smartphone business has shrunk a lot in recent years, but the company still comes out with a few phones every year. But these gadgets are mostly only available in Japan, the United States, and a few countries in Europe. It has now released the Xperia 1 V, which is its new top-of-the-line smartphone. It has a number of features that aren’t often seen at the top of the market.
The Xperia 1 V is the follow-up to the Xperia 1 IV from last year. It has the best technology on the market. It has a 6.5-inch, 21:9, 4K OLED screen with a refresh rate of 120Hz, a touch sample rate of 240Hz, and HDR support. The phone is driven by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC and has 256GB of storage and 12GB of RAM.
The phone is interesting because it has a slot for a microSD card, which is something that almost none of the latest top phones from Samsung, Google, OnePlus, or Apple have. The latest flagship phone from Sony also has a 3.5mm headphone jack, which is a trait that has gone the way of the dodo in high-end phones but is still common in mid-range and entry-level phones.
The new Sony flagship has a triple-camera setup on the back, with a 52MP main sensor with an f/1.9 lens and support for Hybrid OIS/EIS. There is also a 12MP ultra-wide camera with an f/2.2 lens and a 12MP telephoto camera with 3.5-5x optical zoom and 15.6X hybrid zoom. The device has a 12MP camera on the front for taking photos and video chatting.
Sony’s Xperia 1 V is the first phone to use a new kind of picture sensor called Exmor T for mobile. It’s a stacked CMOS sensor with different layers for the photodiode and the transistors. Sony says this will cut down on noise in low-light scenes. The phone also has many manual settings from Sony’s Alpha cameras, such as high-speed burst shooting, real-time eye autofocus, and more.
The Sony Xperia 1 V has a 30W (USB PD) fast charger and a 5,000mAh battery. It comes with Android 13 out of the box. It is 165 mm long, 71 mm wide, and weighs 187 g. It costs $1,399 in the US and £1,299 in the UK, which is a lot of money no matter how you look at it. You can pre-order it now on the official Sony website, and the first customers should get it by July 28. The phone comes in two colours: black and khaki green. The khaki green one is only sold on Sony.com.
