Somalia: Former Al Shabaab co-founder to regain his freedom


Former deputy leader of al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab, Sheikh Mukhtar Robow known as Abu Mansor is set to regain his freedom, amid talks aimed to free him from the prison in Somali capital Mogadishu.

There has been a high level confrence in Kenya’s capital Nairobi which was also attended by politicains, lawmakers and others senior officials from IGAD.

The lates talks were aimed to to release him, according to an elder Malaq Abd Mohamed from South West state, who spoke to KNN.

Robow has been in undisclosed detention cell for the last three months.

He was detained by security forces last year while running to contest public office in region state of Somalia.

Row was arrested and then airlifted to Mogadishu in suspecion of bringing weapons and militants in Baidoa town, some 250km south west of Somali capital, according to statement released by Somali security ministry.

Howerever, the Al Shabaab’s deputy leader Mukhtar Robow defected from the jihadist group, it was hailed as a major step for peace hopes in Somalia.
